NDIS Approved Footwear

Finding the right footwear when you have a disability can be challenging. At The Footwear Store, we offer a wide selection of stylish and comfortable shoes that are approved for NDIS funding.

What is the NDIS?

NDIS stands for National Disability Insurance Scheme. It provides funding for equipment and services to eligible Australians with permanent and significant disability. Footwear is one of the items that can be funded under the NDIS if it helps the participant reach their goals and objectives.

Our Range of NDIS Approved Footwear

We have carefully curated our collection to include shoes that meet the NDIS footwear requirements. Our shoes are designed to accommodate foot conditions such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Bunions
  • Hammertoes
  • Corns and calluses
  • High arches
  • Fallen arches
  • Wide or narrow feet

Key Features of our NDIS Approved Footwear

  • Adjustable straps and laces - which accommodates swelling and braces with straps and laces that can be loosened or tightened as needed.
  • Wide and deep toe boxes - Provides room for bunions and hammertoes to fit comfortably without rubbing or irritation.
  • Removable insoles - Allow the use of custom orthotics or inserts for additional support and cushioning. Our shoes have removable factory insoles.
  • Cushioned soles - Absorb shock and provide comfort when walking with conditions like arthritis. Our shoes have extra cushioning in the midsole.
  • Firm heel counters - Provide stability and support for the rearfoot. Our shoes have reinforced heel counters to prevent sliding.
  • Lightweight materials - Reduce fatigue for all-day wear. We use lightweight and breathable materials like mesh and foam.
  • Slip resistant soles - An important safety feature to prevent falls on slippery surfaces. Our soles have tread patterns that grip the ground.

Benefits of NDIS Approved Footwear

Footwear that is approved for NDIS funding provides many benefits for people with disabilities:

  • Improved mobility - Properly fitted and supportive shoes can make walking and standing easier and safer by stabilising gait. This allows greater independence and participation in daily activities.
  • Reduced pain - Features like cushioning and roomy, wider toe boxes reduce friction that can aggravate foot pain and complications. Taking pressure off sore spots brings relief.
  • Increased stability - Firm heel counters, straps, and closures prevent feet from sliding around in shoes. This decreases the risk of sprains, falls, and injury.
  • Customisation - Being able to remove insoles and adjust closures means shoes can be tailored to an individual's orthotics, braces, swelling needs, etc.
  • Healthier feet - Shoes designed for problem feet keep you active while protecting sensitive areas from irritation. This promotes foot health.
  • Compliance ready - By choosing NDIS approved models, you can access funding support for the footwear you need. This makes treatment more accessible and affordable.

What the NDIS Typically Funds

  • The NDIS will typically fund specialised footwear or orthotics for participants when it is required due to their disability.
  • Evidence from health professionals like podiatrists or physiotherapists is usually needed to show the footwear is necessary.
  • The footwear should help the participant be more independent, participate in activities, reduce need for other supports, and represent good value.

What the NDIS Does Not Fund

  • Everyday clothing and footwear costs that are not due to disability needs.
  • Extra costs like certain brands, models, or features not related to the disability.
  • Temporary footwear needs like a broken toe or diagnosing/treating a health condition.

Shop our full range of NDIS approved footwear now or contact our customer service for assistance in finding the perfect pair based on your needs. We're here to help you access the footwear you require through your NDIS funding.
